Eye Exams for Contacts

Your Contact Lens Eye Exam

The first step to getting contacts is to visit your eye doctor.* You’ll receive a thorough eye exam designed to determine if contacts are right for your eyes and prescription, including an internal and external examination of your eyes and a glaucoma test. The prescription you receive can be used for either contacts or for eyeglasses (however, regular exam prescriptions for eyeglasses cannot be used to fit you with contacts).

Once your exam is complete, you can explore all the choices and brands available at Target Optical. Things to keep in mind include:

What’s your prescription?
A wide range of contact lens products are available to address the most common vision correction needs, such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, presbyopia, or astigmatism.

What’s your sport?
Contacts make any number of sports easier and more fun. Be sure to ask your eye doctor about proper precautions for wearing contacts during your favorite activities.

What are your risks?
If you have allergies, certain hazardous work activities, diabetes, dry eyes or persistent infections of the eye, contacts may not be right for you. Your eye doctor will help you decide.

Caring for your contacts
You’ll be shown how to care for your contacts in a way that optimizes the performance of your lenses while safeguarding your vision and eye health.

Locate the Target Optical nearest to you to schedule an appointment.

*Eye exams available by Independent Doctors of Optometry next to Target Optical in most states. In California, Target Optical does not provide eye exams
or employ Doctors of Optometry. Eye exams available from self-employed doctors who lease space inside of Target.
